The Rick Milne StoryWe ran an auction - back in the days when people didn't run auctions of old newspapers, detergent packets, comics, toys , swap cards, moneyboxes and 1940's cadvertising signs. Suddenly the phones started to ring - the media was interested in this "grass roots" auction.
Now let's fast-forward ten years. The media still retains its fascination with what we'll call grass-roots collectables. Mainly, I think, becasue we've all owned a Phantom comic at one stage, or a swap card of our favourite football player, or ship, or train, we'll remember our favourite advertising jingle, or the washing detergent our Mum used. So it's all to do with memories.
From that modest beginning has grown a full time career with radio programs on 3AW Melbourne (now in its 18th year) , 2GB Sydney, 4BC Brisbane, weekly columns in the Melbourne Age, Collectormania magazine plus weekly programs on a variety of country and ABC Australia-wide valuation programs.
We run auctions on an irregular basis (these days!) and have stalls at antique centres in Camberwell (Melbourne) and Annerley (Brisbane). |
