Hi RIck,
Asking this on behalf of a computer illiterate work mate....He has what he firmly believes to be a genuine wanted poster that is fully framed. The details of the poster are, he thinks, a bit unique as it is for the whole gang by name and is issued by both NSW & Vic governors.
The reward stated is 10000 pounds and it is a bit bigger than A4 size, it has minor wear marks including nail holes which he says are more square than round. I don't think it has a date on it at all...
He assumes it was put in the frame in 1953 as it has on the back of the framing (in grey lead?) the words "Mr L Vess, Rutherglen 1953"
Having never seen it myself I think the question I am asking is, if it were found to be genuine what would be it's current worth...

Regards
Brett

If it's the real thing (and it's a big "IF"!!) the bidding would start at $50,000. A word of warning to your friend though: there are THOUSANDS of reproductions of the Ned Kelly posters, and they've been doing them for 75 years. Some universities and state libraries can check your poster for authenticity. Good luck to your mate. Let's hope the poster is the real deal!!

Try again.. Hi Rick, I am with you I think it's a big If but hey good luck to him, I think when I tell him this he will have to get it offically verified. I will let you know how he goes

Hi Rick, I have an authenticated wanted poster of Kelly and gang. It has been through a lot to gain its authentic status and I would now like to sell it. Any suggestion where to start?

I assume it was authenticated by a museum or similar? If you don't want to give this info in this public forum, perhaps you might prefer to email me mrpp@iprimus.com.au

Hey Rick, I have an authenticated ned kelly wanted poster and am looking to sell. Where would you auction such an item to collect a price like 50,000?

adcaptain3, still need to know who did the authentication - thousands of reprints floating around! It will need to be from an impeccable source - museum, head of the Antique Dealer's Guild, valuer of antiquities (I'm not one - I do sporting items mostly) or similar.

Sorry Rick, Ive just run it to every licensed valuer in Sydney. Hordern House, Sothebys auction house, Mitchell library, State records and Joseph Lebovic have all inspected the poster and none are brave enough to call it an authentic. They have never in their years actually seen an authentic. They've seen plenty of fakes and cannot sufficiently liken it to a fake. Ive been sent to have it viewed at the state library in Melbourne. I will do so when I get time.

Good luck adcaptain3. If it's an original, you may have one-of-a-kind!

Some things are almost impossible to verify. I've been thinking on this one for some time - unfortunately, I reckon you have one of those items!

You may be right there Rick. Im still going to try my luck in melbourne however and if its still uncertain, I may find someone out there willing to take the risk and buy it regardless.
