Tennis doesn't sell as well as Aussie Rules. About $50. I've had this one a few times, and can't seem to get any more than $50 for it.

Thank you very much Rick:
Just a couple more items
I have some Footy Fan magazines from the 60's with K Murray on the cover, Also another with Polly Farmer.
I also have a football card signed by Jason Dunstall. This card was an insert into Select cards in 1993 and is like the normal card but is covered with a glossy surface. It's very rare I think.
Thanks a million

Hi Pat, Your Footy Fan mags are worth about $15 each - quite collectable, but not rare. Jason D. card is worth around $200, and is quite limited. I can't say I'm a big fan of these premium issues, as most collectors end up with thousands of "commons" in the hope of getting one of the limited issue cards. A form of "lotto", often aimed at kids! Oh well, time to get off the soapbox!

Thanks again. Couldn't agree more with you about those premium issues.
How would I go about selling such an item?
I also have another item. The entire team set of the Bombers (select 1993) signed by the matching players. About 12 cards all up.
Sorry for all the questions and thanks a million for your help.

Rick, I have inherited a mounted commemorative AFL football given to my G-father Jack when he coached WA in its first ever win over Victoria in 1921. It has the names of the players from all states participating at the carnival, including the capt. of VIC, a bloke named Brownlow. The family story is that this ball and another were actually used in the game and mounted later. (The other was presented to the capt. of WA - Trusscott. It is, I understand, in the WA sporting museum at Claremont.) I need a valuation for insurance; how can I find someone qualified/endorsed to make such a valuation? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, Pat. You sneaked this last one in when I wasn't looking! If I'm not mistaken, this wasn't an officially signed release. Did you get the autographs yourself? If so, you've got about $100 total for the 12 cards. Not easy to sell these, or the others from you previous emails, but I guess eBay is as good as any. Hope this helps

Mal, you've got something pretty special here! I assume you have all the relevant info. about your grandfather. If it all is as good as it sounds, you'd be looking at $7,500 or so. I am a Licensed Valuer of sporting items, and can prepare a valuation on the official form. All I need is a good image of the ball. Send it to my email address: mrpp@iprimus.com.au I would charge $225 for preparing this document. You keep one copy of the valuation, and send another to your insurance company. Let me know if you'd like my help.

Very popular at the time, Football Life mags. turn up quite frequently, even today. Many had a colour page of a football star of the day, sponsored by Adidas. These are worth about $8 each - the same price the magazine usually sells for.

Hi Rick,
I have a new Sherrin football purchase at a Collingwood F.C Auction night in the early 1970's. It is signed by the team players. The names I can decipher are Ross Dunne, Rene Kink, Wayne Gordon, Billy Picken, Robert Hyde, Andrew Ireland, Ron Wearmouth, Max Richardson, Wayne Richardson, Doug Gott, Chris Perry and Graeme Anderson. Could you tell me if it has any value.
Cheers Jill

Jill, I find signed footballs are pretty hard to sell. They go flat, you pump them up, they go flat etc. And over time, the signatures often fade. Wish the news was better, but maybe $200.

G'Day Rick, I have a lot of(Mostly) Carlton Football Club memorabilia! If there are any pieces of value I would be interested in selling. Here are some of the items
A match worn Brett Ratten Jumper from 1995 (Last premiership) framed and with the frame signed by the 1995 team. Ratts was also B&F that year I believe!
A 1999 new jumper framed and signed by David Parkin and Craig Bradley
A 2002 pre season training jumper, framed! Signed by the entire squad and including coaches. Frame includes a painted wooden spoon as this was the first year Carlton "won" a spoon. It also has a list of the players and coaches as well as noting the players who did not actuall get a game that year, notably Jarred waite
A Stephen Silvagni 300 game print, signed by Silvagni, Nicholls and Doull
A framed White Clash Guernsey from Rnd 6 2007 signed by all the players who originally played in that first game with the white jumper
A framed picture of John Nicholls and Ron Barassi taken after the first win with RDB a coach, has Big Johns signature on the back
A 2004 framed "Heritage round" jumper with the yellow shoulders
Newspapers and footy records from every Carlton Premiership back to the big one in 1970
A signed 3m "Silk" picture of Brendan Fevola which used to hang at the telstra dome, from the 2008 season when he kicked 99 goals
Untold other items such as 100's of footy records, badges caps scarves

Fossil, why would you want to follow that rabble? Ha - I should talk, I follow a team that's not even there any more (Roy Boys). You have a stack of queries, so here goes (in order) If the Brett Ratten's jumper is that worn in the GF $5,000 plus, If not $2,000. Parko (I went to school with him) and Braddles $1,000, training jumper and wooden spoon (gave me great pleasure, that!) $2,500, the SOS print $1,000, Clash Guernsey $2,000, Big Nick and Ronald Dale pic. $750, Heritage jumper $1,500, best of papers and GF Records is 1970 (of course - at least you beat arch foe C'wood!) $250. Hard to value the rest without seeing what you have. Large silk banner signed by Fev (I bought a few of these - I reckon they're great) $500, more if he was still at CFC. Of course, he's now with my adopted team - Brownie will keep him in line, or else! Happy to help valuing the rest. Maybe give me a call some time 0418 339 103. Hope this helps.

G'Day Rick, I follow "THat Rabble" by blood. Mum went to the footy during WW2 and kept going, and going and going, started taking me when I was 2, I cannot remember not going to the footy! I started my daughter when she was 8 months old and my grand daughter when she was 16 months. I hope she will forgive me for taking so long with her!
I hope Brownie can keep Fev in line. Fev is a nice bloke he just should never be allowed to drink alcohol unless he is under lock and key! He is nice to speak with and not full of himself like some think! Mum idolised him and she recently passed away aged 89 and would have been so upset with what happened. Thank you for the offer to value the rest. I will sort through them and get some sort of order about it and give you a call after the New Year. I am to Samoa for a week and it is pretty hectic after that with all the pre Christmas bah humbug stuff.
Thanks Mate I appreciate it

Good one, Mark, and a good story. That's the beauty of Aussie Rules - because most teams have been around for a long long time, there is a tradition about following a particular club. So children, parents, grandparents and even great grandparents often all support the same club. Much as I like Rugby League - I'm a Storm fan - there isn't the same history. Of the original clubs, only South Sydney has survived - and even they were out of business for a few years. So the family passion isn't quite the same. Enjoy the hols., contact me when you get back. By the way, my Dad was a Blue Bagger, but I bucked the trend!

Hi Rick, Just got back from Samoa late last week.
I always blame the parents when they let a child get away from their club! Some of our friends said that I should have given my daughter a chance of who to barrack for. But as I said "What if she chose the wrong team?". Fitzroy always had a soft spot in our hearts (Except when we played against them) for years they played at Princes Park plus they had a similar logo.
Never really been a fan of League, but after 20 years of going to Samoa I really quite like Union! I think Union made a big mistake not putting a team here when they first started Super 12 then Super 14! I know my Samoan mates who live here will follow the Union possibly to the detriment of Storm!
I will definately give you a buzz early in the New Year once I have sorted out a lot of the stuff I have here! I have remembered a lot of other things I have, such as "Milestone" caps, 200 250 300 350 375 stuff, signed by Bradley, Silvagni, McKay, Kouta and quite a lot of other stuff. I am trying to find out which of my nephews took all my old footy records. I had about 300 starting in the mid 50, but mostly of the 60's. They all deny having them, but mum did tell me one of them took them, sadly mum is gone now and the nephews aren't saying.
I also have lots of little bits and pieces that you pick up over the years caps, player card, some of the original player name tags that we used to get sewn or our jackets or scarves. The original WEG premiership posters only 72 onwards. I had a 70 of course but after it being stuck on walls every where I went it finally disintegrated, before I knew the value of it.

Fossil, everybody said they had a soft spot for the Roys, and I know why. Because every other team could beat them! I bet you wouldn't say you had a soft spot for the Magpies or Essendon! I can't be much of a father - my three boys follow the Dogs, Kangas and Swans - and their kids follow Tigers, Bombers, Roos, Swans! Pity about your 1950's Footy Records - they're worth quite a bit. Better check out those cousins. When I went to the Storm premiership celebrations at Princes Park, there were plenty of New Zealanders and Islanders joining in the celebrations . When you're ready, I am provide valuations. Call me when you're ready

Thanks Rick after you value this stuff, what is the best way to sell it? I am ready to go when you are I would need a day or two to open the boxes up the back of the shelves and get all the little bits and peices out, but as I work from home I can make any time you want.
Re:daz79, I will email you with all the posters I have as soon as I have it sorted. Sorry to tell you they will only be Carlton and I gave away two full sets (Other than the 1970 which I did not buy spares of) two years ago, one to my daughter one to a nephew.

Just a few comments on price of WEG posters. I know the prices seem high. Although I have quite a few at the moment (1970 onwards) I would like to sell for quite a bit less than some of the retail outlets. But if I go too low, dealers will be the main buyers, who can then load up on the price. It's a tricky one. I'm aware of a very clean 1961 Hawthorn which could go up around the $7,000 mark We auctioned a fair condition 1963 Geelong a couple of years back and got well over $2,000 then. Since that time, prices have doubled - definitely. Partly because of WEG's passing, but also because a lot of new collectors have joined the market to collect an ever-diminishing supply of the earlier posters. My suggestion is, buy WEG at today's prices, and don't stress too much at the prices. After all, you're only paying tomorrow's price, and tomorrow comes pretty quickly. And I reckon WEG's will double in value again on the next 10 years. Also, a word of warning. There are plenty of fakes out there. Creamy coloured paper, ink far too heavy which causes the paper to wrinkle. I've had the same problem with Scanlens cards especially. I tried to keep the price for all cards in a set at the same prices. But I found collectors would take all the Jezza, Leigh Matthews, Peter Crimmins, Darrel Baldock etc cards, so I had to put a premium price on the superstars. I rememember at a fair, one guy took only the stars, and spent $200. So that's the end of pricing all the cards in one set at the same individual prices!
