Hi Rick,

Just wondering on the value of an original Jamie Cooper Carlton Team of the Century Print signed by David Parkin and Stephen Kernahan?

Thanks for your help in advance, fantastic website.
Andrew

Thanks for the kind words, Andrew! Having coach and captain signatures helps a bit. This one was readily available at the time. Around $150.

Hi Rick,
The Jamie Cooper Team Of The Centry Prints are extremely hard to find. The $150 price tag is a little low isnt it??
They hardly appear on eBay and are always snapped up.
The Hawthorn one sells for alot nowdays

A fair question, Dave. For a reason I'll never be able to understand, Carlton F.C. memorabilia is the least popular of all 12 original VFL clubs. Asked to rank the teams in order of collectability by Scot Palmer at the Herald-Sun, I ranked Essendon first, Hawthorn second.....and Carlton 12th. As a result, I tend to value Carlton memorabilia at a somewhat lower level than for other clubs. Sorry Blues fans, but that's what the market tells me.

Hi Rick,

What do you think the Hawthorn Print is worth. Signed by Captain coach. Limited to 200??
There is one currently in the Hawthorn museum and an artist proof in the Hawthorn shop unsigned and unnumbered for $1500. Thanks for getting back to me on the other posts.
Cheers

This is only one man's opinion , but I think Jamie Cooper art generally is the pits. Compare his work with the beautiful mural done at Hawthorn by Brian Clinton. Now THERE'S an artist! To me, Cooper has little sense of proportion - some of his work (especially Footscray) is diabolical. Again, only one man's opinion. Stlli the market tells me there are people happy to buy these team of the century limited editions. (By the way, I maintain limited editions should be 25 or 50, and at a pinch, 100) Any more is too many. Nonetheless, your Hawthorn print sells these days for $500 plus. I'm amazed! OK, time to get off the soapbox. I wouldn't pay $500 for the unsigned, unnumbered artist proof.

What mural are you talking about? Where abouts is it? What does it depict?Yeah I wouldnt pay $1500 for the unsigned unnumbered proof either. But I am yet to come across a numbered signed Hawthorn one besides in the Museum. Thanks for the advise! Dave

It was in the foyer at Hawthorn showing the superstars of the Hawkers, and it's magnificent! Call Peter Haby who is the curator of the museum (now at VFL Park), and he'll tell you where it's now located - out there I should imagine. If you happen to go to AFL Headquarters, you'll find the offices of the Football Record there (downstairs) They also have a Clinton mural featuring Leigh Matthews being chaired off after his last game. It is sensational! It's worth a trip to see it.

Thanks Rick,

I know which one you are talking about now! It was also used for the cover for the History Of Hawthorn DVD/VCR. It is amazing... He has also done another Hawthorn mural in the early 90's with Dermie, Dunstall, Ayers, Hudson (Paul) and a big hawk. Pity Clinton doesnt produce prints for his Hawthorn artwork...

I Paid $2000. for a carlton team of the century print 5 years ago, so $2200 isn't to bad i think. they don't come up often.

There is a difference between an artist proof and one of the numbered prints... I wouldnt be paying those sort of prices for an artist proof...

well yeh thas another thing ive been asking the question and being asking a few people and a few painting shops and they have told me the artist proofs in america and europe are the ones that are fetching alot of money and apparantley thats they way it is heading in australia and it is starting to happen only because the artist himseld signs it in grey lead and no one else like your saying player and coach sign apparantley that brings the value down just like a weg poster that is signed by anyone isnt worth as much as a plain copy
any one can help me with that would be great
thanks

I highy doubt that... The Jamie Cooper prints were numbered and signed according to number ie. first 50 signed by the team, next 200 by the captain/coach and the next 250 unsigned. The artist proofs are just reprints... Can't see how they would be more valuable when the exact quantities of these reprints are unknown and there is no authenticity like a-tag on them etc. Cheers

I was wondering, what a bound copy of nearly all the 1933 Wednesday Sporting Globe's(2 copies of each edition) would be worth. I picked it up for $50,25 yrs ago.
The cover is cardboard and cloth edged,it is slightly soiled.Of the actual editions, The first (Jan 4) has one copy, and is torn and incomplete. The last edition (Dec 29) has one copy. The only really unfortunate thing is,the Melbourne Cup edition(Nov 8),is missing(presumably, never there in the first place.
All other editions are duplicated and generally in very good to excellent condition.
This was of course, the year of the Body-Line series and the 1933 South Melbourne Foreign Legion.

Stuart, sorry, I didn't see your query tucked away as it was. I have a few bound volumes of these and value them pretty well. Missing the all-important Melb. Cup issue is a pain, as is the damage to the first few pages. The punters eem to prefer buying the Saturday bound vols. as they contained all the footie scores. About $200 for yours.

Just a small word of warning to all the punters out there buying (or considering buying) artist's proofs: it's true that they tend to sell well overseas. However, what happens there doesn't necessarily follow here. As an example, board games are huge in the US, yet sell here for very modest prices. An ancient advertising sign might sell overseas for $50,000, yet here they seldom go over $10,000. I'm not sure how many artist's proofs there are of these footie posters. As I always say:"Buy it if you like it, but don't necessarily expect to get your money back if you decide to sell.
