It was obtained by my family when his Surfers Paradise penthouse was sold about 40 years ago. I remember staying there when I was a child. Would it have any additional value due of its former owner?

Otherwise, the potential buyer is going to have to take your word for it - and these days, that's not going to happen! I don't doubt your story - it's just that it will be very hard to sell unless you have some proof. That said, it sounds great! $2,000 if in excellent original condition.
